This model first appears in the artisans' notebook in 1973-1975, with the code G1726. Originally produced during the early '70s, the handbag is crafted from leather with a Web inlay in red and green. At the closure, a gold-toned horsebit highlights the design's equestrian theme. Embossed in gold on the interior is 'Made in Italy by Gucci' with the number 22, the artisan's identification number. This leather handbag was selected by the Creative Director and Vault archivists for its particularity, character and exceptional vintage condition, and it was reconditioned by the in-house atelier. It has been given the number 205 | 22 and will arrive in tailor-made packaging. This rare and beautiful piece should be handled with exceptional care.
The Web stripe signifies an unspoken code that is recognizable at first glance. The stripe extends through decades, connecting each wearer not only to the origin of the House, but to each owner of the bag, who was also undeniably drawn to the regimental stripes of blue and red. Paying homage to the House's roots, a gold-toned horsebit hardware decorates the style, further highlighting the equestrian theme of the design.
As soon as you hold a piece of the Vault, you begin to write a new chapter of its story—instituting a relationship, rather than an ownership, that will forever connect one owner to the next. As the years accumulate, every mark or crease is collected onto the surface, continuously altering the item’s appearance and making it completely unique. Imperfections should be expected and treasured as the journey continues for this piece.
