Vintage Garden print silk shawl, 1970s

This shawl was first created in the mid 1970s and is made in white silk and multicolored Garden print by Vittorio Accornero de Testa. Tailor-made fringes surround the edges. This shawl was selected by the Creative Director and Vault archivists for its particularity, character and exceptional vintage condition, and it was reconditioned to the highest standard by in-house artisans. It has been given the number 85 | 21 and will arrive in tailor-made packaging. This rare and beautiful piece should be handled with exceptional care.

The Story

One of seventy-seven designs created by the artist and set designer Vittorio Accornero, who first illustrated the Flora motif for Gucci in 1966. The 'V. Accornero' signature printed onto each scarf is a rare display of authorship and speaks to the personal connection Accornero had with the House.

Each design is known for its broad range of colors and the asymmetrical composition, here a different type of flower reaches from each corner into the center bouquet.

As soon as you hold a piece of the Vault, you begin to write a new chapter of its story—instituting a relationship, rather than an ownership, that will forever connect one owner to the next. As the years accumulate, every mark or crease is collected onto the surface, continuously altering the item’s appearance and making it completely unique. Imperfections should be expected and treasured as the journey continues for this piece.
