A structured top handle bag crafted in brown suede, first produced in the 1960s with code G1281. The front flap is detailed with a lock-shaped gold-toned metal closure with a keychain in brown leather with keys inside. Embossed in gold in the interior is 'Made in Italy by Gucci' accompanied by the number '88'–the identification number of the bag's artisan. The green and orange-red Web stripe extends down the center of the bag. This handbag was selected by the Creative Director and Vault archivists for its particularity, character and exceptional vintage condition, and it was reconditioned to the highest standard by in-house artisans. It has been given the number 79 | 21 and will arrive in tailor-made packaging. This rare and beautiful piece should be handled with exceptional care.
In decades past, once a Gucci handbag was finished and inspected, a discreet place was chosen and then hand-stamped in gold with the phrase Made in Italy by Gucci. The now recognizable trademark was accompanied by a number that was used to identify the craftsperson who made the bag. Here, in faded gold, the identification number 88 is still visible as it continues to take part in this bag's story—forever connecting the wearer to its origins.
The brown velour finish suede is intercepted by the green and orange-red Web stripe and extends into a feminine rounded handle. The lock closure is its most defining feature cementing a business feel to the structured shape.
As soon as you hold a piece of the Vault, you begin to write a new chapter of its story—instituting a relationship, rather than ownership, that will forever connect one owner to the next. As the years accumulate, every mark or crease is collected onto the surface, continuously altering the item’s appearance and making it unique. Imperfections should be expected and treasured as the journey continues for this piece.
