Originally released in the late 1970s, this set of 3 suitcases is crafted in beige leather with green and red Web ribbon detail. The gold-toned metal snap fasteners are engraved with 'Gucci' and each suitcase has a luggage tag and keyring. The interior fabric lining depicts the diagonal G motif and a leather component has 'Made in Italy by Gucci' embossed in gold with the number 525. This suitcase set was selected by the Creative Director and Vault archivists for its particularity, character and exceptional vintage condition, and each one was reconditioned to the highest standard by in-house artisans. They have been given the number 45 | 21 and will arrive in tailor-made packaging. This rare and beautiful piece should be handled with exceptional care.
The simple, structured shape of each suitcase speaks to the history of the House and the unparalleled craftsmanship behind each item. The beige leather is intercepted by the green and red Web signifying an unspoken code that is recognizable at first glance. The stripe extends through decades, connecting each wearer not only to the origin of the House but to each owner of the suitcases, who was also undeniably drawn to the regimental stripes of green and red.
This suitcase set speaks to that fantastical idea of travel, both real and imagined, and one can imagine the destinations these suitcases have reached throughout the last 50 years. Notes of travel and faraway places have always been integrated into the Gucci identity, beginning with Guccio Gucci working at the Savoy Hotel in London—an experience that inspired him to start the luxury goods brand.
As soon as you hold a piece of the Vault, you begin to write a new chapter of its story—instituting a relationship, rather than ownership, that will forever connect one owner to the next. As the years accumulate, every mark or crease is collected onto the surface, continuously altering the item’s appearance and making it completely unique. Imperfections should be expected and treasured as the journey continues for this piece.
